Rods can be installed to support weak crotch formations where the canopy doesn't provide adequate limbs structure to install cables.
Rods can be installed to support split limbs from storm damage but are only on a case-by-case basis. Some limbs may be damaged too much.
In this pictures the rods are new and u can see the sap bleeding out, this is not typical for all trees.
Eventually the tree will heal and grow over the rod and nut.
Cables can be added to support weak crotch formations where the canopy provides adequat limb structure.
Cables can also be installed to raise low hanging limbs over roofs, walls, or walkways.
Large Limbs that grow straight out horizontally can be
supported with cables
and/or braces.
